¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ celebrates Homecoming October 20-22

SHREVEPORT, LA — ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College’s annual Homecoming and Parents & Family Weekend is scheduled for Friday, October 20 through Sunday, October 22. Highlights during the weekend include the Alumni Awards Luncheon, a ribbon cutting for the College’s new Hal Sutton Golf Performance Center, several Ladies volleyball games, and the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College Choir’s annual “Rhapsody in View” performances. The classes of 1967 and 2007 will hold individual reunion gatherings during the weekend, as will Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) alumni from the 1960s and 1970s.

“The Office of Alumni and Family Relations is looking forward to welcoming alumni, parents, and friends of the College back to campus for Homecoming and Parents & Family Weekend,” says Saige Solomon ’05, director of alumni and family relations at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ. “This is a great time for alumni to reconnect and reminisce about their time as students and we enjoy showcasing our beautiful campus to parents and family members while they visit with their students and experience our vibrant campus life.”

The 2017 Alumni Awards Luncheon will be held on Friday, October 20 at 11:30 a.m. in the Whited Room of Bynum Commons. This annual event honors alumni who have brought distinction to the College, and this year’s awards include:

            Alumni Hall of Fame – Robert “Bob” Young ‘49

            Alumni Loyalty – Charles Grubb ‘68

            Young Alumni Leadership – Courtney Patterson Stephens ‘01

            Honorary Alumni – George and Clare Nelson

            Athletic Hall of Fame – Denis ‘94 and Davor ‘95 Poljak

            Honorary Athletic Letter – Chief Eddie Walker

            Bentley Sloane Award – Katie McKay Simpson ‘04

On Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the Hal Sutton Golf Performance Center located in the College’s Fitness Center. The new performance center, made possible by generous support from ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ alumnus and 1983 PGA Championship winner Hal Sutton, will enhance the training regimen for the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Gents and Ladies golf teams with game simulations and swing analysis, and members of the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Fitness Center and other community members will also be able to purchase lessons in the center with ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ golf coach and PGA pro Emlyn Aubrey. The ribbon cutting is free and open to the public, and attendees will have a chance to test the performance center technology.

Friday’s events wrap up with the Gumbo and Cookie Cook Off in the Gold Dome parking lot, featuring delicious entries from ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ student organizations.

Saturday, October 21 includes a full day of events, including two Ladies volleyball matches at the Gold Dome, alumni softball and baseball games, the Homecoming tailgate and announcement of the Homecoming Court, an Athletics Recognition Ceremony, and the evening performance of the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College Choir’s “Rhapsody in View” at Shreveport’s Riverview Theater. Alumni of ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ’s Executive MBA program are invited to an Alumni Open House at the Frost School of Business from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Office of Admission will also host its Fall Open House for prospective students and families on Saturday the 21st. Interested students can view the full Open House schedule and register to attend at centenary.edu/openhouse.

The Homecoming weekend concludes on Sunday, October 22 with a special reception at 9:00 a.m. and a 10:30 a.m. “¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Sunday” service at Noel United Methodist Church in Shreveport. ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ president Dr. Christopher L. Holoman will offer greetings at the contemporary service and preach at the traditional service. Ladies volleyball is back in action in the Gold Dome for two afternoon games, and the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College Choir presents a 2:30 p.m. matinee performance of “Rhapsody in View.”

The ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Archives also recently debuted a new exhibit highlighting material from classes celebrating notable reunions in 2017: the Classes of 1967 (50 years), 1992 (25 years), and 2007 (10 years). The exhibit in ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ’s Bynum Commons will be open throughout the Homecoming weekend and is also accessible online at .
