SHREVEPORT, LA — ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ students, faculty, and staff are gearing up for the College's 9th annual BIG Event on Saturday, April 2. BIG event is a nationwide student-led day of service at more than 110 college campuses, including ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ.

"The BIG Event has become a part of ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ tradition that not only the campus community expects, but local community members look forward to as both participants and recipients of the welcomed beautification that the volunteers offer," says LaToya Hemphill, Assistant Director for Community Engagement at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ.

BIG Event provides an annual opportunity for ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ to make connections with the Highland neighborhood and give back to the surrounding community. Participants will perform service projects both on the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ campus and at non-profit organizations and homes in the Highland neighborhood.

Members of the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ and Shreveport-Bossier community who are interested in participating in BIG Event projects can register online as an individual or team.

Volunteers can check-in and enjoy a light breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on April 2 at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ's Kilpatrick Auditorium. Site work begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes by noon. Afterwards, a carnival is planned on campus with entertainment and food for volunteers.
