Lucie Thornton to join ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College Board of Trustees

SHREVEPORT, LA — ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ College’s Board of Trustees approved the election of Shreveport attorney and ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ alumna Lucie E. Thornton as a new member at its February 2023 meeting. Thornton began her four-year term on February 1.

“I am very happy that Lucie has agreed to join the Board of Trustees,” said ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ president Dr. Christopher L. Holoman. “Her professional skills and experiences make her a valuable addition; the fact that she is an alumna is an added bonus. She understands and communicates the things that make a ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ education so special.”

Thornton graduated from ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ in 1979 with a degree in sociology and went on to earn a law degree from Tulane University School of Law, where she was a senior fellow in legal research and writing. She has practiced law in Louisiana, primarily in the New Orleans area, for more than 40 years, specializing in medical malpractice defense litigation and commercial litigation. She is currently associate general counsel for Ochsner LSU Health-North Louisiana and is a member of the American Bar Association, Louisiana State Bar Association, and the Shreveport Bar Association.

In New Orleans, Thornton served on the board of directors of the Save Our Cemeteries organization and was an active member of the Junior League of New Orleans, serving as chair of the Public Affairs Committee and copy editor for the League’s Lagniappe publication. She was also an active member of both Christ Episcopal Church and Trinity Episcopal Church in New Orleans and currently serves as a eucharistic minister, lay eucharistic visitor, lay reader, lector, and member of the Garden Committee at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Shreveport. In 2021, Thornton joined the board of directors of VIALink, a Louisiana organization providing crisis support and connecting people to resources and services.

“It’s such an honor to have been asked to serve on ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ’s Board of Trustees, certainly nothing I even dreamed about while I was a student!” said Thornton. “My time at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ gave me the foundation of an excellent liberal arts education and it is also where I met many people who continue to be important in my life, my best friends. When other friends hear me talk about my ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ friends, they often comment on how unusually close we are. They’re right – it’s exceptional that our group has stayed so connected through these 40+ years since we were together at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ. I hope my time on the Board can lead to an increased appreciation of the people who make up the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ community, because I believe these personal relationships are what sets the College apart from other liberal arts schools.”
